DUINO

The Castle of Duino (GPS: 45.77, 13.604 )

Actually, there are two castles, facing each other on two cliffs poking up from the sea. The older castle was built in the 11th century, and is now a ruin. The newer, renovated castle across the bay is still inhabited by the Turn und Taxis noble family. The castle is reachable from Sistiana by taking the Rilke Trail. It is only a short 2km hike. For more information, refer to the Trails section of this website.

WE SUGGEST:

- visiting the castle and park

- visiting the bunker (which is dug 18m deep into the rock)
